Hey everyone-- hope you all are having a great week despite the pouring rain. This week we revisited the topic of prayer and the crucial role it plays in our spiritual walk, and after some slight review we went on to discuss how to pray. In reading Romans 8:26-27, we learned that in our prayer lives we have the Holy Spirit as our intercessor, one who prays and petitions to God on our behalves. Our complete dependence on the Holy Spirit in terms of prayer enables us to truly pray in Jesus' name, or, by His will; and when our prayers are led by the Holy Spirit, we are promised not only that He will be "near to those who call on Him.. in truth" (Psalm 145:18), but that we will "receive whatever [we] ask for in prayer"!!! ------- Abiding in Christ is necessary to leading a Spirit-led prayer life. Most, if not all of us, could relate to feeling guilty when it came to presenting prayers/requests to God. We learned, though, that God receives glory when He answers our prayers! To not ask would imply that: 1) We really don't want it; 2) We can get it/make it happen on our own; 3) We don't have faith. So, let's remember: As our Father, God desires to hear and answer our prayers. Let's also remember our commitment to depend on the Holy Spirit in our prayer lives from now on. Read the below for more details on this week's homework. See you all soon, Shilla _________________________________________________________________________________________________________ This Week's Assignment: If you don't already have one, get a small notebook/journal (something easy to carry around); this will be your new prayer log to keep record of God's work in your prayer life. I recommend that you keep the prayer log separate from any other journal or notebook you may have. I started out last week incorporating my prayer log into an already existing journal that I write in-- it's not a good idea. By having a separate prayer log you'll avoid having to rewrite prayer entries and you'll be able to have all prayer entries from all days in one spot, rather than having your regular journal entries dominate what page you'll end up logging in your prayer topics. WHICH MEANS.. all your crossed out prayer requests will be in one place for you to see. Your prayer log will be dedicated to: 1) Thanksgiving- A daily entry of things for which you will praise and thank God. 2) People you want to keep in your prayers. 3) Prayer requests --leave space to write down the answer and date on which it was answered (I find that #'s 2 and 3 overlap a lot). Cross out each answered prayer request w/ a red pen. Hopefully, it won't be long until our prayer log is filled with red marks! Feel free to organize the sections in any way you choose. I know everyone has his/her own preferences. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Also, here is the translated version of prayer steps I promised to send you guys (someone think of an acronym): 1) Know the Holy Spirit. 2) Long for the Holy Spirit to touch your heart. 3) Confess 4) Pray 5) Believe that He hears you. 6) Thanksgiving. 7) Commitment to the voice of the Holy Spirit (can't say "never mind" when we don't like what we hear).
